Our September sermon series is “The Art of Being Together: How Jesus mends and strengthens broken relationships.”
We live in a time when people are afraid, relationships are frayed, and our instincts draw us into our bunkers. We might make snap judgments and see others through the lens of suspicion rather than grace. This happens in our politics but even more in our interactions with family and friends. We are left feeling lonely and invisible.
In the month of September, the lectionary (the assigned Biblical texts we study along with Christians around the world) spotlights Jesus counteracting these human tendencies and offering profound healing.
“Be Opened” – Mark 7:24-37 – Jesus meets two outsiders; a woman who speaks out
and a man who can’t speak.
“God Glasses” – 1 Corinthians 2:6-13 – What does it mean to see the world through the
lens of faith?
“Leaders Eat Last” – Mark 9: 30-37 – Ambition with Jesus looks very different.
“Unauthorized Exorcists” – Mark 9:38-50 – Jesus welcomes unsanctioned healers and
challenges the “us vs them” mindset of his own disciples.
